  • Surgical department #3 (head and neck tumors) - 39 beds

    The department has 10 doctors, 10 nurses.



    The head and neck department is providing speech function of laryngectomized patients is restored with the help of voice prostheses since 1996; treatment of patients with brain neoplasms is carried out since 2003; reconstructive operations are performed since 2004.

    The department provides radiation therapy, surgical treatment, minimally invasive endoscopic operations, combined treatment, comprehensive treatment, palliative care.

    Activities:

    • Prophylactic and early diagnosis of head and neck neoplasms using joint diagnostic methods (cytology, histology, IHC, endoscopy, ultrasound, MSCT, MRI);
    • Provision of specialized modern medical care to patients with malignant neoplasms of the oral cavity, nose, pharynx, larynx, paranasal sinuses, malignant ophthalmic tumors, tumors of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, soft tissue tumors of head and neck.
    • Multifaceted rehabilitation of patients after treatment of head and neck tumors;
    • Tracheoesophageal shunt with a voice prosthesis placement, restoration of the eating function, reconstructive plastic surgery using a flap of the stomach, jejunum, scapula, ilium, nickel titanium implant;
    • Participation in organizational methodological work among medical institutions of the Irkutsk region;
    • Participation in educational work of training medical professionals, who work with head and neck pathologies.


    Achievements:

    • Endolaryngeal laser resection;
    • Extended resections of the oropharynx with simultaneous defect closure, including using microsurgical techniques;
    • Minimally invasive operations on the thyroid gland through MIVAP, endoscopic interventions with external projection approaches;
    • Endoscopic operations on the nasal cavity and paranasal cavities;
    • Intraoperative fluorescent diagnostics of the parathyroid glands;
    • Closure of defects in the oropharynx, including using microsurgical techniques;
    • Developed a technique of forming a tube-free tracheostomy;
    • Developed a voice function restoration technique (voice prosthesis);
    • Photodynamic therapy of tumors of the skin and oropharynx, including endoscopic therapy, is widely implemented;
    • Implemented angiographic selective embolization for the oropharynx bleeding;
    • Implemented HPV-associated cancer tests;
    • Combined skin neoplasm removal with simultaneous aesthetic surgery.

    Scientific directions:

    • Palliative care for patients with tumor process of the oropharynx;
    • Research of the HPV influence on the course of tumor process in the oropharynx;
    • Further development and implementation of the reconstruction of organs and tissues of head and neck in tumor treatment;
    • Multifaceted rehabilitation of patients after treatment of head and neck tumors;
    • Development of methods for extended use of voice prostheses.
